The
Spotted Wobbegong,
Orectolobus maculatus, is easily distinguished from the other
two species by its patterns. They have white spots in ring
formations. They also have a distinctive brown triangle between
their eyes.
Orectolobus maculatus has 6-10 branched dermal lobes. Most Spotted Wobbegongs have an overall mid-tone.
Occasionally “blond” ones are seen, these are not
albinos, in that they have the normal patterns. Wobbegongs and
Blind Sharks can change their colours to blend more easily with
the substrate.
