Parupeneus spilurus Bleeker 1854
Parupeneus signatus Gunther 1867
black-spot goatfish

The Black-spot Goatfish, Parupeneus spilurus, can be distinguished
by the black saddle with bright yellow patches in front and behind
on the caudal peduncle. There are two dark stripes along the body and a
pair of long barbels on the chin.
Juveniles
are more slender and more yellow than the adults. Juveniles are
usually found in small schools, adults singly or in groups.
Black-spot Goatfish are common
at Julian Rocks, they will come quite close to divers. Their barbels are used to probe sediment for invertebrates.
