Synanceia verrucosa reef stonefish |
The Reef Stonefish, Synaceia verrucosa, is both well camouflaged and extremely venomous. The one pictured here perfectly matches the colours and textures of the surrounding rocks. The Reef Stonefish has 13 spines on its dorsal fin which may be used to inject highly toxic venom.
Stonefish eat crustaceans and fish, they in turn are eaten by sharks and sea snakes.
