Scarus ghobban, blue-barred parrotfish

Parrotfishes are so called because they have teeth which are fused into strong beak like plates.
They feed on algae and coral.

The blue-barred parrotfish, Scarus ghobban, has dorsal and anal fins which are yellow with blue margins.
The female body (above) is yellow-orange with five incomplete blue bars. The caudal fin is only slightly curved.

The male (above), is yellow on the sides and blue on top. They have a blue bar on each scale and blue bands extending backward from the eyes. The caudal fin is deeply curved.
