Epinephelus daemelii Gunther 1876

black rockcod, saddled rockcod
The Black Cod, Epinephelus daemelli, is whitish
to dark grey with broad bands curving forward near the head.
The black
saddle near the base of the tail is diagnostic. Colouring depends
on habitat and mood,the Black Cod can be completely black in estuaries or may be light voloured with few markings.
Epinephelus daemelli is timid
and territorial, it may live in the same cave for many years.
Distribution = NSW to southern Qld. New Zealand;
Max size = 1.5m, 50kg
