Arothron hispidus, stars and stripes toadfish
The stars and stripes pufferfish, Arothron hispidus, has distinctive markings. The upper body dark brown to light grey covered with small white spots. There are white lines on the underside and a white line around each eye. There is also a large, darker circle with a white outline, where the pectoral fin joins the body.
They have a varied diet including algae, coral, sponges, molluscs and other invertebrates. Fishes of this family are highly toxic to humans. The teeth in both upper and lower jaws are fused into two plates.
