Lepidotrigla grandis Ogilby 1910

supreme gurnard

little red gurnard

It is unusual to find Lepidotrigla grandis, the little red gurnard, as it usually inhabits very deep water. 2 individuals were observed 9/1/09.

The extended rays on the pectoral fins are fairly mobile. The Little Red Gurnard uses them to feel around in the sand and also to move about.
