Bodianus axillaris, coral hogfish, axil pigfish juvenile

The juvenile coral hogfish, Bodianus axillaris, (left) is very distinctive being black with large white spots.
Adults (below) are completely different. The front half is dark in natural light or red when illuminated. The back half is white. There are large black spots in the axils of the pectoral fins.
Juveniles may pick parasites off other fish.
