beaded sea star, granular sea star, zig-zag sea star
The Granular Seastar,
Uniophora granifera, is variably coloured from pink , through purple and brown to yellow. It has a rough appearance as the surface is covered by granules which may be large or small.
The white spot, near the centre of the individual on the left is the madreporite or sieve plate. It is the inlet to the water vascular system. All echinoderms have them but they are usually less conspicuous.
Max size = arm radius 12cm
Distribution = NSW & Tasmania
