The banded sea urchin, Echinothrix calamaris, has a black body and two sets of spines.
The primary spines are tubular and open ended, with brown and white bands.
The secondary spines are thinner and brown or black with sharp, venomous tips.
Distribution = widespread Indo-Pacific
Max size = overall diameter 25cms
